Optional pre-season workouts
Summer 2020
Phase 1 = May 22 to May 31
Schedule:
Phase 3 = June 15-June 30 ***Has been extended to July 15th
- There are no volleyball activities planned for this time.
- Please read the following information from SPS Athletics:
- Any individual displaying symptoms associated with COVID-19 should be prohibited from attending or participating in workouts (fever, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, sore throat, etc.). Furthermore, coaches should asked their participants the following questions prior to participation:
- Have you had a cough, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, and/or vomiting in the last 24 hours? (Answer should be No)
- Do you feel healthy and willing to participate in physical activities related to strength training, conditioning, and sport specific skill practices? (Answer should be Yes)
- Athletes should be instructed that workouts are clearly voluntary, and punitive measures will not result from lack of participation.
- Athletes and coaches diagnosed with or live with individuals diagnosed with the following conditions should consider delaying their participation in sports: Diabetes, Chronic Lung Disease including Asthma, Obesity (Body Mass Index >40, Chronic Kidney Disease, Heart Conditions, etc. Any individual who is immunocompromised or is 65 years of age or older should consult with their healthcare provider before participation.
- Athletes should shower before and after workouts, and wash their workout clothing after each practice. Prior to and after workouts, individuals should wash and clean their hands.
- Athletes should arrive no more than 5 minutes before workouts begin and should be prepared to participate in order to prevent gathering in groups. Furthermore, individuals providing transportation for athletes to and from workouts should remain in their vehicles at all times, and spectators are prohibited from congregating while waiting for workouts to conclude. Additionally, coaches should avoid gathering students in groups to provide instructions.
- All equipment used (weight room and sports specific equipment) should be wiped down thoroughly after each use and before, intermittently during, and after practices/workouts.
- Contact sports may skill and drill without participants touching one another.
- Social distancing guidelines should be enforced. Groups no larger than 25 participants, however coaches must be cognizant of the size of facilities and whether social distancing guidelines can be implemented. When large outdoor facilities are utilized and multiple groups are sharing the facility, coaches should again enforce social distancing and work to stagger arrival/departure times for each group, thus preventing the groups from intermingling. A practical suggestion to alleviate this concern would be to develop one entrance and another exit to these types of facilities.
- All participants should bring their own water bottles clearly identified with their name. No Hydration stations, coolers, or common water sources should be utilized/provided.
- Workout groups should be conducted in “pods” of students with the same students consistently working out together. This is intended to isolate possible cases and prevent the spread of the virus should exposure occur. Attendance records should be maintained daily, and dates/times/locations/participants/etc. should be documented clearly on a daily basis. This information should be submitted weekly to the Site Athletic Director or Coordinator.
- The athletic office and site administrators will work with custodial crews to ensure adequate cleaning of facilities occurs. Coaches should plan time between groups for cleaning of weight room equipment and sport specific equipment to occur as well.
- Athletes should practice social distancing while waiting in lines or not participating in drills.
- No locker room usage during this period.

- League is a time to allow some competition between teams. In a normal year it is challenging to piece together the puzzles for 3 teams and now with added regulations we have had even less time with our players. Please understand that all teams, playing time, positions, etc are all experimental, a constant work in progress and in constant evaluation. Coaches are doing their very best with the situations handed to them and we expect the best from our players.
